City of Rogers, MN is accepting applications for the position of Project Communication Intern. Work is completed in the field in outdoor conditions along with an indoor office environment. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Works Superintendent. Interns will have practice dealing with construction project updates, newsletters, website updates, social media press releases and assisting in the development of presentations.

Salary Grade: $12-$14/hr - DOQ

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Public Works Superintendent, this position is responsible for assisting with the City's internal and external communications and public relations efforts, as it relates to City construction projects. It is expected that this position will last up-to six months.

Scope of Responsibility:

Work is completed in an office setting with the potential for intermittent field work. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Works Superintendent. Interns will have opportunities to practice in the following areas:

  • Update interested parties about ongoing construction projects within the City.
  • Assist with developing content for the City's newsletter and website.
  • Assist with coordination of City-related press releases.
  • Help update content on the City's social media pages.
  • Provide articles about specific City programs or activities of general interest.
  • Assist City personnel in the development of presentations, meeting notices, and other communications.
  • Provide support for departments in writing, designing, and publishing in-house publications such as brochures, books, and articles.
  • Provide support for departments by writing/proofing/editing information to be posted on the City's website.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and establish good relations with co-workers, program users, and the public at large.
  • Skill in the use of computer equipment and software including word processing (Microsoft Word), desktop publishing (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and website content management systems.
  • Skill in proper grammar, sentence structure, paragraphing, punctuation and spelling.
  • Ability to maintain a team and service oriented approach to work.
  • Must have the ability to accept criticism or discipline.
  • Must strive to promote a cooperative atmosphere in the department and exhibit a proactive and positive attitude.
  • Ability to stay focused and multi-task.
  • Must have valid driver's license with driving record acceptable to the City.
  • Must be enrolled in classes seeking a degree in public relations, communications, or related field
