1. Call to Order. The workshop session of the Council of the City of Rogers was called to order by Mayor Grimm on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 6:30 p.m. at Rogers Community Center, 21201 Memorial Drive, Rogers, MN, 55374.

Council present: Rob Bell, Jay Bunting, Jason Grimm, Rick Ihli, and Maureen Stanley.

Staff present: Stacy Doboszenski, Assistant City Administrator; Robert Shellum, Interim Director of Public Safety; Steve Stahmer, City Administrator; and Lisa Wieland, Finance Director.

2. Police Chief Selection Process Discussion
Attorney Carson explained to Council that the documents in front of them are confidential information and names are still confidential at this point.

Bill Joynes with Midwest Government Advisors addressed the Council stating there are six outstanding candidates in their packets, one pulled out, and the five remaining are high quality candidates. Joynes stated candidates numbered one through five are highly qualified for the position.

The recommendation is for the top five candidates to move forward in the process.

Joynes briefly reviewed the top five candidates with Council. Joynes stated staff is prepared to have the initial interviews on May 2nd with three different interview panels for whomever the Council chooses for semi-finalists tonight. From that group, finalists will be recommended to Council to conduct backgrounds on.

Council was asked if they have any questions. Mr. Joynes stated he and Shellum know four out of the five candidates listed for recommendation.

Bell stated candidate 8 seems qualified and questioned why he was not forwarded. Joynes stated they have looked at that candidate in other searches, and doesn't think he would mix well in Rogers with his communication style.

Ihli stated in the separate interviews with Joynes and Shellum the Council was able to tell them what they were looking for in a candidate. Ihli stated he is more than comfortable with the five that Joynes and Shellum recommend.

There was consensus of the Council for staff to proceed with the five candidates recommended.

3. Adjourn

The meeting adjourned at 6:39 p.m.
